Rei sat outside a dango shop, kicking her feet back and forth over the edge of her seat. For such a sunny day, the girl looked gloomy. So much so in fact that the elderly lady who ran the shop, was concerned enough to approach her.
“Rei dear, whatever’s the matter? Such a fine young lady like yourself shouldn’t have a care in the world!” She laughed, as thoughts of her own youth came to mind. Rei offered a small smile for the old women, but took a few moments to speak her mind.
“Today is July nineteenth… In other words my birthday.  What with Kiba’s disaster of a birthday still being fresh in my mind…I’m apprehensive as to how today will go to say the least…” Rei sighed, shuddering at the mere thought of what happened only twelve days prior.  The old women shook her head, “Dear I know today that sounds like a mortifying experience, but trust an old women’s advice,” Rei perked her head up to look straight at the elderly women who had placed her hand on the younger brunnetee’s shoulder. “The most embarrassing moments are always the most memorable. Someday  you’ll look back on that day and laugh.” She said, before patting Rei’s shoulder and continuing on with her sweeping. Rei sat there and thought for a moment, when she wasn’t “in the moment” it was quite comical and she even found herself laughing about it. But still…she couldn’t shake this feeling of dread that had overcome her this morning…

Hours had passed since Rei’s talk with the old women, and still her mind was not content.  Regardless she went home, and found Kiba getting ready for the day. He had decided that this time they will have a decent birthday. No craziness. Rei breathed a sigh of relief. “I’d like that.” She giggled.
As the event drew nearer, Rei’s home became a bustling atmosphere. Kiba was running back and forth making sure the food was in place, and Rei had been getting herself ready for when the guests arrived. However, her father, a man who never appeared late or on time, simply when he decided to show up, knocked on the door.  Surprised Rei, wobbled over to the door, still trying to latch a necklace behind her neck, her hair still only partially done.
“Father!” She exclaimed, as she stared at the aging man holding a box wrapped in glistening red paper.  Her father looked her up and down, noting his daughter’s distraught appearance.
“Rei, you do realize the party is now, don’t you?” He said, exasperated at his daughters unprepared appearance. Rei took the gift from him, one hand still on the latch of her necklace.
“Actually Father, it’s in an hour. You’re early.” She said, rolling her eyes at him and smiling.
“Nonsense!” He said, waving the girl off. “Now then, where is this Dog-boy, you’ve told me about?”
“Father! He has a name, It’s Kiba, not dog-boy.”
“He’s an Inuzuka right?”
“Yes Father, he is.”
“Then dog-boy shall suffice, until I deem him worthy of me addressing him by name and worthy enough to date my daughter.” He said prideful, but he had good intentions behind it. Rei, while she didn’t appreciate her father referring to her boyfriend as “dog-boy”, she could see that behind the tough act was a father who was only looking out for his little girl. She gave her father a quick hug, after she finally managed to latch the necklace securely around her neck, “It’s good to see you.”
“Likewise,” He replied, straightening his daughter’s necklace for her.
Rei smiled, and began to pull away from the embrace, “Oh and Dad?”
“Hmm?”
“Play nice.” She teased, poking her father in the chest.
“I promise nothing!” He exclaimed, but gave his daughter a reassuring smile.
Rei continued on with the preparations, as her father began to harass Kiba in the next room. From what she could hear it was about his posture, and how he should make sure his dog stayed out of the food. Kiba, thankfully, was biting his tongue. This is going to be a long day… She mouthed to Kiba, “I’m sorry.” as she passed the doorway, he only raised his eyebrows at her, who was clearly aggravated.

Finally it was time for the party, guests began to arrive, some were Kiba’s old friends, like Shino Aburame and Hinata Hyuga, and others were family such as Kiba’s older sister, Hana and Rei’s younger sister Hitomi. Guests seemed to be pouring in faster and faster, and Rei was doing all she could just to keep up, despite it being her birthday. She was rather desperate for things to go right after all.
Not too long after it seemed like the party was beginning to settle down, now that most of the guests had arrived, Tsume, Kiba’s mother walked in. Rei kept her head down as the women approached.
“Hello Tsume, it’s nice to see you again, we’re glad you could make it.” She said quietly, avoiding eye-contact.
Tsume, ever wild looking as ever, grinned, showing off her canines, and having her eyes become feral slits, “Yes, and you as well dear. Nice to see you dressed this time.” She sneered, handing her a present and walking off to find her son and daughter. Rei stood there, absolutely frozen her face flushed the deepest shade of red she thought imaginable. However, she thought surely that must be the worst of it.

“You!” Was all Rei heard in the kitchen, and she immediately rushed over to see what it was. She rounded the corner and saw her father and Tsume standing there. Tsume’s dog, Kuromaru had his teeth gritted and was growling.
“Well, well, if it isn’t the little boy I whipped the floor with in the chunin exams.” She glared.
“What are you doing here?” Rei’s father said through his teeth.
“Me? I’m Kiba’s mother. What are you doing here?”
Rei’s father looked taken back, and he grabbed the corner of a table to steady himself. “You…You’re the mother of the boy my daughter is dating!?” He sounded infuriated. At this point both Rei and Kiba were standing helplessly nearby, neither one really wanting to get close to their parent. Not to mention a small crowd of party guests was starting to gather to watch the drama.

Within minutes, the two had exchanged insult after insult, asnd eventually one of them, Kiba nor Rei is sure which, grabbed a significant amount of cake and tossed it at the other making a loud Splat! noise on Rei’s abdomen. Whoever threw the cake missed their target, and Rei just happened to get stuck in the crossfire. This do not seem to deter the two though, as more  cake went flying through the air, some hitting the intended target, some hitting innocent bystanders.

Rei could feel her eyebrow twitching just above her right eye, her shirt covered in cake and vanilla frosting slowly slopping down on to the ground to the greedy dogs below.
“Kiba….” She began, slightly gritting her teeth.
“Yeah?” He winced, shoving the remnants of the cake off of his body as well.
“Next time…next time we’re going to just have a conjoined party. Perhaps then, it’ll cut down on the havoc that seems to follow us.” She groaned, pulling out a large chunk of cake from her hair.
Kiba chuckled, “But what fun would that be?” He sneered, placing a kiss on her frosting coated cheek, as Tsume and Rei’s father continued their argument in the background.
Finally complete! :iconrelievedplz: Sorry about the delay hun, I just wasn't in the writing mood. ^^; I hope you like it! :D I must say I'm quite enjoying writing about Rei and Kiba's shennanigans, it's quite entertaining.
